Hi!

Is this a good future proof spec to play wow on max setting on a 1440p monitor. At the best frame rate and if not why and what other alternatives would you suggest bearing in mind my budget is 2k which this spec basically meets cost wise and also any idea why today when I was being impulsive and I tried to buy this pc but whenever I tried to pay deposit and have the buy now pay later option it would just kick me out and not let me proceed any further with the purchase ?

Thx

A laptop is very different to a desktop for 2 reasons

1/. Can’t upgrade the gpu. In any computer the first bottleneck will be the GPU no matter what you fit. On a laptop, you can’t replace it, so for longevity you fit the highest tier you can afford.

2/. Laptop gpus are different silicon to desktops and quite a lot less powerful. So a desktop 4070 which would be ideal for mid level 1440p would equal around a laptop 4080.

Be aware also that the performance you get now isn’t what you’ll get in a few years. Games update all the time, WoW has already been through 2 graphics engine rewrites and that will continue, plus as DLCs are released using newer technologies, the required specs increase

You’ve pasted the configurator link rather than the specs, if you proceed on the specs, then select paste to forum we can see what you’re referencing.

Apologies, no idea why I thought it was a laptop!

If you could paste the specs as in the guide otherwise we can't make any amendments?

Site does seem to be a bit buggy today, I wonder if they’re doing some kind of updates.

It’s a very solid start.

The only suggestions I’d make would be to upgrade the PSU to the 1200w Shift model to allow for any upgrades in the future. “Transient spikes” are an issue with modern gpus since Ray Tracing technology hit that often isn’t accounted for

The 1200w doesn’t mean the system will draw 1200w, only that you have that headroom available. The shift model is also the new ATX 3 standard which is far more efficient and you’ll hardly ever hear it, I’ve got one and it’s quite incredible.

And then regarding your drives, best practice is to have a small one for the OS and programs, say 512Gb and then a dedicated one for your games, a P41 would be ample if you want to reduce costs, personally I’d suggest 2tb min these days as games are becoming over 100Gb nowadays quite frequently.

What Hz is your monitor btw? If you’re unsure what make and model?

Recently purchased!

I was gonna just get a single drive and risk it tbf! With the one above? I’m only playing world of Warcraft on max settings? Would this be a problem with the one drive ? I get if it goes wrong you lose everthing but my last pc had both the os and the game on and it was much smaller.

With the 1200? What would you suggest from the drop down menu ?

I wouldn't personally, you're gonna have to reinstall windows weather you like it or not, with a single drive you have to reinstall your games and everything which is totally unnecessary with a proper drive setup.
It's up to you, but there's no benefit to having a single drive on todays systems, it only reduces performance and ease of use.

If you've only got WoW, then perhaps a 512Gb OS and 1Tb Game drive, and it will be cheaper also than a single 2TB

There is only one

So the above photos maybe over powered but should be good choice ?
Apologies, I missed the cooler, you can reduce that to the H100 variant of your choice, no need for the 280mm rad on that cpu, it's crazy efficient.

The rest looks good though.

Regarding WoW, it's due for a graphics engine update, and I seriously think they may incorporate Ray Tracing as there's been a few mods that have implemented it successfully and it's so easy these days and makes such a huge difference, so expect GPU requirements to change in the next few years.

So is there a gpu on the market atm you would suggest to avoid needing another upgrade in next few years ? I want to have a pc now I can just use and not worry. Also I may not end up even playing with ray tracing on but incase I do is there something instead of what I have you would change too?

You can't avoid upgrading, it's not possible. Games evolve constantly, there's nothing you can do to prevent your GPU becoming outdated.

All you do by buying an overspecced GPU now in the hope that it may be powerful enough in the future is pay a massive premium for outdated technology by the time it's useful and gives you poor performance compared to just upgrading to a current GPU at that time.

As you step up GPU tier, the price differential increases massively.

You always fit the GPU to the monitor, then upgrade when required.
